Dear Fellow Sales Professional,
I’m sitting here typing this letter, thinking about the biggest challenges you and I are facing these days.
And the times are indeed challenging.
We here in the Portland Metro area where I live ended the summer (July 2010) with unemployment at 10.4% (The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the National unemployment rate at 9.7%), so struggling sales professionals who might be considering getting a job to make ends meet are finding there doesn’t seem to be any jobs to get!
So the pressure is on to adapt marketing to a more educated consumer; to embrace creative, collaborative solutions with other entrepreneurs; to integrate Social Media into your marketing (among other things); and to just get out there and sell more products and services.
As far as success in business (or in anything else, really) is concerned, I think there really are only two primary challenges we all face. Either
- You don’t know what do to, or
- You do know what to do, but you aren’t doing it.
The first problem is easily solved. If you don’t know how to do something, all the education you need is readily available.
It’s the second issue that stumps us every time.
And the biggest frustration is that we really WANT to make positive changes to improve our situation. Given economic challenges outside our control, we also feel great pressure to make needed changes just so we can eat and pay the rent or mortgage.
I’m thinking all that pressure is immobilizing, don’t you?
